Behind the Seams: How Story of Mom Creates Clothing That Feels Like a Hug
You know that feeling when someone hands you a warm cup of tea, touches your arm, and says, “I’ve got you”?
That’s what we wanted every outfit to feel like.
Because motherhood is not easy.
But clothing should be.
This is a small peek behind the seams — into how we design each piece at Story of Mom to be more than just a pretty outfit.
To feel like comfort. Like care. Like home.
Step 1: We Start with Real Moms (Not Models)
Every idea begins with a question:
“What would a mother actually want to wear at 7 AM with a toddler on her hip?”
That’s why our designs don’t chase trends — they follow your life.
The preschool runs. The postpartum softness. The Sunday naps. The days when just showing up takes strength.
We ask real moms how they want to feel — and then we begin sketching from there.
Step 2: Designing for the Everyday Body
Our silhouettes are soft on purpose:
-
No tight zippers
-
No stiff collars
-
No “suck it in” waistlines
We favor flow, stretch, layering, breathability, and the little details that make a big difference.
A slightly longer hem. A neckline you can nurse in. A waist that moves with you.
Because your body does enough already — your clothes shouldn’t ask more from it.
Step 3: The Fabric Had to Be Muslin
We chose 100% double gauze muslin cotton — not because it’s trendy, but because it’s what we wish we had when we were healing, nursing, nesting, moving, sweating, napping, living.
-
It’s cloud-soft
-
It breathes with you
-
It doesn’t need ironing
-
It gets better with every wash
You wrap your baby in muslin.
We say — now wrap yourself in it, too.
Step 4: Everything Is Done with Intention
From the wooden buttons we hand-stitch to the tags that never scratch, no part of your outfit is random.
Even our color palette is rooted in nature and mood — soft sages, dusty roses, warm whites — because your clothes should calm you, not clash with your day.
We design slowly. Carefully. Like every thread matters. Because it does.
Step 5: Created for Moms, by Moms
Our team is mostly mothers.
Mothers who’ve nursed through meetings, changed diapers in mall bathrooms, and worn the same shirt three days in a row.
We don’t just design clothing.
We design relief. Softness. A gentle reminder that you matter too.
Every time you slip on a muslin shirt or co-ord set, we hope you feel it — that little sigh of comfort.
That invisible hug.
We’re not fast fashion. We’re slow, thoughtful, and proudly made in India — with care in every step.
Because when the world asks you to give everything, we hope your clothes are one thing that gives back to you.
